Cancer Prehabilitation Survey 2025 – Privacy Notice

The Scottish Government takes the security of your personal data very seriously. This notice provides details of what information we are collecting from you, who will have access to it and what we will do with it.

Who is collecting this information?

This information is being collected on behalf of the Scottish Government. 

Why are we collecting this information?

We want to hear about the activities in your area that help people diagnosed with cancer prepare for cancer treatment (cancer prehabilitation). The information you provide will be analysed for research purposes to help us improve the implementation of key cancer prehabilitation principles across Scotland, and inform future ways of working.

What information are we collecting about you?

The survey is aimed at cancer service providers to better understand service arrangements and is not being sent to service users. The survey is anonymous in that we are not asking for your name.  However we are requesting information about your:

  • Professional group
  • Sector
  • The NHS Health Board area in which you mainly work. 

This information is requested in order to assess if there are any over or under-represented groups or areas in the sample, and to contextualise findings and help inform work to improve services. You are not obligated to provide any of this information.

Do I have to provide my personal data to you?

Your response to this survey is completely voluntary; and you can respond to it without providing any personal data.

If you would like to participate in follow-up focus group research about cancer prehabilitation, you can provide your name and email address within the survey. This personal data will only be used to make contact about arranging a focus group in the future. Follow up focus groups will only be undertaken if deemed necessary by the Scottish Government Cancer Policy Team for a more in-depth understanding of survey results.

Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data

Article 6(1)(e) of the GDPR regulations – ‘processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller’.

Who will have access to this information?

Authorised people in the Scottish Government, such as policy officials and researchers, will have access to this information.

Who might we share your information with?

We will not share your information with anyone other than the authorised people mentioned above.

How will the data be used?

The survey is strictly confidential. Your answers will be treated with care and with full respect for your privacy, and will be handled in line with Data Protection legislation.

The information will be used for research purposes only. Survey responses will be analysed and used in reports about the findings of the survey. Your confidentiality will be protected in the publication of any reports, and we will not publish the results in a form that could reveal your identity.

Will we send your information outside the UK?

We will not transfer your information outside the UK.

How long will we keep hold of your information?

All personal data will be deleted by 30 June 2026.
